Dutch subsidy for industrial climate projects (NIKI), and how it applies to a company from abroad

The Dutch government pays part of the cost of scaling up a proven technology that cuts carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in industry. The scheme is called Nationale Investeringsregeling Klimaatprojecten Industrie (NIKI), the national investment scheme for industrial climate projects. Each application is for at least €30 million, and companies can apply from 16 November to 16 December 2026. A company from abroad applies through its own Dutch company. Our team arranges the application, with a specialist for the technical part.

Short answer

NIKI is a Dutch subsidy for industrial companies in the Netherlands that use a proven technology on a large scale. The company owns the installation and has completed the basic engineering, the technical base design.

The subsidy is for the investment and the operation together. Each application is for at least €30 million. The budget for 2026 is €250 million.

NIKI is a tender. The Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) ranks the complete applications on the bid in euro per tonne of CO2 avoided. The lowest bid ranks first. The highest bid that counts is €300 per tonne.

Companies can apply from Monday 16 November to Wednesday 16 December 2026 at 17:00 Dutch time. In the first round, in 2025, companies asked for €364 million against a budget of €211 million.

A Dutch private limited company (BV) of a foreign group can apply when it operates the industrial company in the Netherlands and owns the installation. At Holdwise, we set up that company and arrange the application with a specialist from our network.

Who can apply

NIKI is for an industrial company in the Netherlands. It is for industry (Dutch business classification SBI, main group C) and the processing of waste and waste water (SBI 37 and 38.2). The company executes the project itself and owns the installation. The basic engineering, the technical base design, is complete.

What you receive

The subsidy is for the investment costs (CAPEX) and the operating costs (OPEX) together. RVO uses the net present value of the cash flows during operation, after the revenue from the products.

The subsidy is your bid per tonne multiplied by the expected CO2 reduction. Each application is for at least €30 million, and at most the budget of the round. The highest bid that counts is €300 per tonne.
