What eHerkenning is
eHerkenning is the login of your company. With it, a person logs in on behalf of the company, for example to file a VAT return or to see a tax assessment. The login is personal: each user has their own eHerkenning, linked to your company.
There are several levels of security. The higher the level, the stricter the identity check. For the portals of the Dutch tax office, you need at least EH3.
What your company uses it for
- The Dutch tax office. VAT returns, payroll returns, corporate tax and your tax mail in the business portal.
- Other government portals. For example the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) for subsidies and tax credits, and the employee insurance agency (UWV).
- Your adviser. With a chain authorisation, your bookkeeper or adviser files for your company with their own login. You give the permission once.
Which type your company needs
| Your company | Type of eHerkenning |
|---|---|
| A Dutch BV, registered at the Chamber of Commerce (KVK) | EH3, linked to the KVK number of your BV. |
| A company abroad with a Dutch tax number, registered in its own country | The eHerkenning type for companies outside the KVK register, linked to the Dutch tax number. |
| Only the Dutch tax office | A special EH3 type for the tax office only. The tax office offers a cost compensation for it. |
How a director abroad gets it
- Choose the users. You decide who logs in for the company: you, a co-director or a staff member.
- Identity check. The supplier checks the identity of each user, usually with a valid passport. Depending on the supplier, this is online or in person.
- Authorisation. A director who is authorised to represent the company, as shown in the KVK register or the register in your home country, approves the application.
- Activation. The user activates the login, usually with an app on the phone. From then on, the company can log in to the portals.
How we help
We prepare the application with you, guide each user through the identity check and set up the authorisations. If you prefer, our bookkeeping team files your returns with a chain authorisation. Then you only log in when you want to look for yourself.
