What gets registered
Every UBO per the 25%-ownership-or-control tests: name, birth month and year, nationality, residence country, and the nature and size band of the interest held — traced through holding layers to natural persons: the file behind it. The registration runs at the KVK, filed at incorporation and updated within days of real changes — share transfers, control shifts, board changes at the top.
Who sees what in 2026
After the European court’s privacy ruling closed general public access, the register serves three circles: competent authorities read everything; gatekeeper institutions — banks, notaries, advisers with Wwft duties — consult it in their checks: that framework; and parties demonstrating a legitimate interest (investigative journalists, civil-society researchers per the rules) access defined data through the reformed procedure. The everyday privacy effect for founders is real: your stake is documented for the system rather than displayed to the street.
