Trade between Paraguay and the EU
Paraguay's goods trade with the European Union (EU) came to €1.26 billion in 2025: €920 million of EU exports and €344 million of EU imports. The EU was Paraguay's fifth-largest trading partner that year, with 5.5% of Paraguayan trade.
Agricultural products accounted for 82% of EU imports from Paraguay in 2025. Machinery and transport equipment (43.4%) and chemical products (30.4%) dominated EU exports to the country that year.
EU foreign direct investment stocks in Paraguay were valued at €2 billion in 2024. In the same year the EU exported services worth about €400 million to Paraguay and imported about €200 million.
Relations follow a Framework Cooperation Agreement signed in 1992. Paraguay was removed from the EU's Generalised Scheme of Preferences on 1 January 2019, because of its upper middle income status. The interim trade agreement between the EU and Mercosur applies provisionally from 1 May 2026.
