The history behind the rules
The EU-Türkiye association framework is the agreement and the decisions made under it. Under this framework, Turkish citizens have standstill protections and protection of rights they have already acquired. Courts have upheld these protections for decades. The rules for Turkish workers and self-employed people are compared with the rules that applied when the framework took effect. As a result, some conditions are more favourable than the general rules. Prepare your application with this history in mind. This is a specialist area of law, so discuss each case with a specialist.
Options for working in the Netherlands
The knowledge-migrant route is the most used option. It needs a recognised sponsor, which can be your own BV, and it needs pay that meets the salary norm. A decision usually comes within weeks: see the requirements in full. The self-employment route suits entrepreneurs with a real business case, and the association-law history affects how conditions are read. The startup visa serves idea-stage founders: the comparison. The business case for Turkish founders relocating between Istanbul and Amsterdam is set out in that guide.
You can set up the company by power of attorney, from any country. This usually happens within one week once all documents are complete. See setting up a BV in the Netherlands from abroad.
Family and long-term residence
Your partner and children can join you on the basis of your permit. They may work and go to school. For long-term residence and, if you want it, naturalisation, the standard waiting periods apply. For the relocation itself, you still arrange housing, schools and healthcare. See the relocation checklist. For every permit, send one complete application with all documents.
