Trade terms today
Today, the EU charges its standard rates (MFN rates) on Malaysian goods. The EU and Malaysia started the FTA negotiations again in 2025, and these may lead to lower duties. If you build your entity, VAT registration and customer base now, you are ready for either result. Exporters from other Asian countries that negotiate with the EU are in the same position.
Electronics and components
EU manufacturers buy semiconductors, assemblies and electrical and electronic (E&E) components on fixed terms. They want an EU contract partner, buffer stock and local handling of claims. The BV takes on that role. With Article 23, you declare and deduct the import VAT on these high-value goods in the same VAT return. See the Malaysia sector article for more detail.
Rubber, gloves and EUDR
Natural rubber products fall under the EU deforestation regulation (EUDR). At import, the EU operator files a due diligence statement. If your own BV is the operator, you can use the traceability of your plantations as a sales argument. See the EUDR operator page for more detail.

Setup from Kuala Lumpur or Penang
The BV can be 100% Malaysian-owned, and you can set it up remotely. For a comparison with other Asian countries, see Asia-to-EU market entry.
