Holdwise Youngtimer Calculator: what your car costs in 2026 and 2027
Status 5 September 2026. The decision on 2027 comes on Budget Day, 15 September.| Year | Youngtimer? | Taxable benefit per year | You, net per month | The BV pays |
|---|
A Dutch company car of 16 years or older is taxed on 35% of its market value, not on the list price. Enter a Dutch licence plate, or choose from 148 popular youngtimers, and see what it costs you net per month, and what each path the government can choose for 2027 means. The decision comes on Budget Day, 15 September; the final figures are here that afternoon.
| Year | Youngtimer? | Taxable benefit per year | You, net per month | The BV pays |
|---|
A company car that you also drive privately gives a taxable benefit: an amount that is added to your income, on which you pay income tax. For a normal car it is 22% of the list price (25% for cars from before 2017). For a youngtimer, 16 years or older, the tax office takes 35% of what the car is worth now. Because a luxury car of sixteen years is worth a fraction of its list price, the benefit is low.
| Example: Mercedes S 500 from 2009 | As a youngtimer | Without the rule |
|---|---|---|
| Base | Market value €17,000 | List price €135,000 |
| Taxable benefit per year | 35% = €5,950 | 25% = €33,750 |
| Net per month at 49.5% | €245 | €1,392 |
The market value is what a buyer pays today for your car. Look at the asking prices of the same model and year (the calculator gives the links), take a few percent off, and have a valuation report made. That report is your proof in an audit. Without it the inspector can choose a value himself.
The RDW is the Dutch authority that keeps all licence plates, and its data is public. From your plate the calculator takes the date of first registration (which decides from which month your car qualifies), the make and model, and the list price then. The calculator only uses that list price for two lines: what you pay if the car drops out of the rule, and the employer levy of the BV. For the taxable benefit itself only the market value counts.
The current law says: from 2027 only cars of 25 years and older. Parliament asked for a softer transition and the government has worked out four other paths. The calculator shows all five. In Dutch: the list of 148 luxury youngtimers is on Beste youngtimer 2027, and the rule itself on De youngtimerregeling in 2027. For expats with a Dutch BV: the benefit is added to your salary as director; how that salary works is on the director salary in 2026.
